Taking on a classic beverage with a cannabis infusion can be a risk. People will always come to a product with a long history with their own expectations and biases, and it can be impossible to make everyone happy. That challenge hasn’t stopped CQ Drinks from taking on two of the longest standing soda flavors, Cola and now, Ginger Ale.

CQ Infused Ginger Ale is a 12oz.-canned soda infused with 10mg of THC per can. The ingredients are carbonated water, sugar, natural flavor, citric acid, sodium benzoate as a preservative, caramel color, cannabis extract, and EDTA as an antioxidant.

The soda poured with a very light amber tone that could be described as a translucent beige. The carbonation was lighter than the CQ Cola but not overly so, and the Ginger Ale still poured with a frothy foam head. Similar to the Cola, the Ginger Ale was sweeter than the standard fare at the front end but followed closely by the classic spice and tang of ginger. The Ginger Ale went down very smooth, and there wasn’t any discernible cannabis flavor.

While my tolerance has built to the point where a 10 mg gummy is hardly noticeable, beverages benefit from the added speed with which they move through the body. The experience opened mentally with a relaxing and calming headspace that kept my energy levels intact. This relaxation that just took the edge off lasted for well over an hour.

Physically, the ginger ale didn’t offer much outside of some pain relief that targeted some of the chronic pain I carry in my back. Overall, I enjoyed both the Ginger Ale and Cola options from CQ, and I’m looking forward to trying the more robust 100mg versions CQ just announced. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
