After reviewing hundreds of strains in the last 40 months, I’d like to think I have a pretty good sense of how a strain’s flavor and effects will turn out if I have previously sampled its parent strains. For the vast majority of strains that’s true, but outliers are always ready to humble my preconceptions for what two parent strains can and will produce. Cap N’ Kush by Rythm was one of those strains.
Cap N’ Kush, bred by Elev8 Seeds, is an indica-hybrid cross of Triangle Kush and Cereal Milk. This eighth of Cap N’ Kush, picked up from Rise Effingham, tested at 0.52% THC, 23.76% THCa, and 24.28% total cannabinoids. The leading terpenes included a heavy percentage (0.42%) of limonene. The other primary terpenes included α-caryophyllene, α-pinene, β-pinene, linalool, and β-myrcene.
I have sampled both these parent strains, and I expected mix of sweet kush aroma and favor, maybe a little fruit and spicy lemon. Instead, Cap N’ Kush first introduction was an aroma blast of orange creamsicle and Tang powder, followed by sweet kush, lemon zest, and a medley of tropical fruit. When broken apart the long Christmas-tree-shaped buds offered slight hints of earthy spice and cream.
The flavor delivered a heavy dose of sharp orange on the front end that was mixed in with a citrusy fruit medley of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, and coconut. The back end of the inhale carried notes of kush, cream, and slight earthy spice. The exhale added more of the earthy kush and sweet cream flavors but not enough to overcome the heavy sharp orange and citrus.
Though the aroma and flavor were not what I expected, the effects were a little more predicable. The head high started with a boost of energy and uplifting attitude that soon mellowed to a clearheaded relaxation. Though engaged, ready to talk, or binge shows, the hybrid effects still carried an overall relaxed sensation.
The body buzz crept in slowly but heavily, and once in full effect, the body buzz transitioned the uplifting cerebral high into the more mellow and chill relaxation mode. Eventually, the body buzz provided a heavy blanket effect, especially in the arms and legs.
Overall, Cap N’ Kush delivered a tradition hybrid buzz with a relatively clearheaded cerebral buzz and a heavy body buzz. And for those tropical-citrus orange-bomb flavor chasers, Cap N’ Kush should be a strain to try. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
