Three years ago when I acquired my medical cannabis card, the physician asked if I would like to purchase a card for one year or three. I instantly said, “Three!” As someone born, raised, and educated in Illinois, I assumed Illinois surely would raise certification fees within three years. A couple months ago, my three-year certificate expired, so I contacted our partners Modern Compassionate Care and completed an option most Illinoisans don’t know about: a lifetime card certification.
Though the option has been around for a couple years, most Illinoisans do not know that, if they qualify, people with chronic lifetime ailments can apply for a lifetime medical card. So this was what I did. I scheduled a telehealth consultation with Katie Sullivan from Modern Compassionate Care to acquire a lifetime medical card.
On the telehealth conference, we discussed my conditions and treatments I’ve already incorporated, along with other pertinent information that helped detail the best-suited care for my personal needs. After the consultation, Sullivan, a nurse practitioner, took me through the process of renewing my card with direct, easy-to-follow directions via email and attachments. Even when I misunderstood one aspect of the renewal process on the State’s website, Sullivan was there to answer my questions and help me through to the finish line.
I still have to register with Illinois for my certificate, but I do not have to get another certification. The caveat is that I have to renew on time. If I am late to renew, then I will have to get certified again.
Those unsure if they qualify for a medical card or just want some basic information can always book a free 15-minute consultation to ask questions before scheduling an actual appointment. Modern Compassionate Care is an integrative wellness clinic founded by Sullivan and Beth Lupo, a therapist.
Modern Compassionate Care offers in-office visits or telehealth consultations (certifications in Illinois; consultations nation-wide) and discounted certification rates for seniors 62 and older, low-income patients, Veterans, cannabis industry employees, and Illinois News Joint readers and followers. Modern Compassionate Care also offers a longer cannabis consultation for patients who want more specific treatment guidance, product recommendations, and more detailed patient education about the therapeutic use of the plant. This option caters toward people who are new to cannabis, parents of pediatric medical patients, and people with severe chronic or complex conditions.
