As markets develop and consumer tastes change, I often find there are taste profiles that become more difficult to find. Diesel or gas-heavy flavor profiles seem to have befallen this fate in the Illinois market with less cultivators focused on the classic flavor. That was what drew me to Super Petrol by Kaviar, a name that inspired some hope for the gas-seeking consumer. I picked up a sample at Star Buds Burbank to see if the name lived up to its promise.
Super Petrol is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of GMO and (GMO x Rocket Fuel). This batch of flower tested at 0.43% CBGa, 0.77% Delta-9-THC, 23.44% THC, and 24.64% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 1.91% of the total weight with limonene, β-myrcene, β-caryophyllene, α-terpineol, β-pinene being the heaviest.
Super Petrol came as a group of small tightly dried popcorn flowers. Turf green with curled-in fire-orange hairs, the flowers also carried some small splashes of purple and pink. The trichomes, concentrated at the creases of the flower, were starting the transition from milky to amber.
The scent inside the jar was earth heavy at the top end with the scent of forest floor, fresh cut lumber, and moss followed by a thick diesel note that dominated the finish on the nose. The flavor itself left the earthy notes in the jar with the diesel taking the top of the palate and a distinct garlic note surprising me on the finish. The flavor was thick, and it lingered on my tongue after the exhale.
Super Petrol leaned into its heavy GMO genetics with a strong body buzz that weighed me down and tired me out. My arms and legs took on a noticeable heaviness that glued me to the couch after a bowl. I was playful and while the heavy body buzz distracted me, I remained mentally alert throughout the duration of the experience.
This heavy physical effect and playfully alert mental contrast made for a great evening break from the tension of the day without taking me out of whatever my family was doing. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
