For much of the Covid-19 pandemic, those seeking medical marijuana in certain states had a special benefit. Medical cannabis clinics could offer virtual consultations via telemedicine. This allowed patients to stay safe, while making the process of getting a medical marijuana card easy and convenient.
However, Rhode Island practitioners are no longer allowed to make medical marijuana recommendations via telemedicine. Controlled substances are prohibited unless there’s an in-person evaluation.
While we understand this change may raise concerns, we’re excited to once again see patients in person at our Cranston, RI clinic. The following is some helpful info on the perks of an in-person consultation, as well as details on the process of obtaining a medical marijuana card.
Benefits of an in-person cannabis evaluation
While telemedicine is convenient, meeting our licensed cannabis practitioners in person has its benefits too.
For example, we feel being face-to-face allows us to get to know you better, and vice versa. It’s a more personal experience. And as a result, it helps us have a more open and authentic conversation with you about your symptoms and needs.
A medical cannabis evaluation lets you walk out with the necessary paperwork in hand. There’s no need to wait for paperwork in the mail.
How to apply for medical cannabis in Rhode Island

Just contact our Rhode Island cannabis clinic at 401-249-4701 to book an appointment. You’ll receive an email with instructions on logging into the patient portal, which you’ll use to complete a questionnaire prior to your consultation.
Who qualifies to become a medical marijuana patient?
To apply for a medical marijuana card in Rhode Island, you must be a legal resident of the state and be at least 18 years old. If you’re under 18, a registered caregiver over the age of 21 can apply on your behalf.
Note: You may purchase medical cannabis products in Rhode Island with a card from out of state.
In addition, you must have been previously diagnosed with one of these qualifying conditions, or the treatment thereof:
• Cancer • Glaucoma • Positive status of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) • Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) • Hepatitis C • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)• Autism spectrum disorder• Cachexia or wasting syndrome• Severe, debilitating, chronic pain• Severe nausea• Seizures, including but not limited to that characteristic of epilepsy• Severe and persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those characteristic of multiple sclerosis or Crohn’s disease• Agitation related to Alzheimer’s disease
